The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command foiled a late-night robbery in the Zone E Extension of Apo Resettlement, Abuja, on Sunday, June 23, 2025, leaving one person dead and two others injured.
The operation, led by the Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, underscores the command’s commitment to tackling violent crime in the nation’s capital.
A press release issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the incident occurred around 10:30 pm after a distress call was received from a commercial motorcyclist reporting heavy gunfire in the area.
The Divisional Police Officer of Apo Division, CSP Uchenna Igwebuike, quickly mobilized his ambush and surveillance teams to the scene.
The robbers engaged the police in a fierce gun duel.
A reinforcement team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Isyaku Sharu, arrived at the scene, and the police responded with superior firepower.
The assailants were forced to retreat into the surrounding hills.
Following the confrontation, a joint manhunt operation involving police operatives and local vigilantes was launched to apprehend the fleeing criminals.
The police have urged residents to report anyone with gunshot wounds or suspicious injuries.
During the raid, three victims were rescued with various degrees of injuries.

Also, a light green Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 620 AU, belonging to one of the victims, was recovered from the crime scene.
All the injured were evacuated to Sahad Hospital in Apo Resettlement for emergency treatment.
Unfortunately, one of the victims succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital personnel.
His body has been deposited in the morgue.
The FCT police boss has extended his condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the FCT.
