The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has deployed 2,202 personnel across Abuja to ensure security during the 2025 festive season, warning residents against the use of fireworks, knock-outs and other explosive devices.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Gajere Dantawaye, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday while extending festive greetings to residents and visitors to the nation’s capital.
According to him, the deployment forms part of the Command’s operational order as the territory gradually transitions into 2026, with a renewed commitment to maintaining peace, safety and public order.
Dantawaye said police personnel have been strategically positioned at places of worship, recreational and event centres, major highways, motor parks and other public spaces across the FCT.
He added that the deployment is being complemented by intensified visibility policing, intelligence-led patrols and the monitoring of identified black spots, uncompleted buildings and shanties that could be exploited by criminal elements.
“Tactical units, rapid response squads and patrol teams have been activated and are supported by increased vehicular and foot patrols across the FCT,” the police commissioner said, noting that the Command is also working closely with sister security agencies to ensure comprehensive security coverage throughout the festive period.
He further disclosed that Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units have been deployed to conduct routine security sweeps at places of worship and other public gathering points, in line with directives of the Inspector-General of Police.
Dantawaye stressed that general security monitoring has been heightened to enable the prompt detection and neutralisation of any threat to public safety.
The police commissioner warned residents against the use of fireworks, firecrackers, banga, knock-out or any similar explosive devices within the FCT, describing such acts as illegal.

“The use of fireworks and related explosive items is prohibited within the FCT. Anyone found in possession or using such items will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he warned.
He urged residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant, and to promptly report suspicious persons, movements or items to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
