The Minister of State, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, on Monday declared that the newly launched “My Nigeria, My Responsibility” campaign would ignite a fresh wave of civic consciousness and citizen-driven responsibility across schools, workplaces and local institutions nationwide.
Speaking at the unveiling of the initiative at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Mahmoud said the campaign reflects the administration’s commitment to ethical governance and participatory nation-building.
The event was organised by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Citizenship and Leadership.
Mahmoud said the initiative is timely, coming at a period she described as a transformational phase under President Bola Tinubu, where leadership reforms demand a corresponding shift in public behaviour, discipline, and collective action.
“Through inclusive policies focusing on security, environmental stewardship and engagement, the FCT aims to empower residents to contribute positively to their communities and the nation at large,” she stated.
She maintained that the message of the campaign aligns with the FCT Administration’s strategic push to deepen civic culture, strengthen social harmony and reinforce respect for national assets within the capital territory.

Mahmoud reiterated that the duty of building a stable and progressive nation cannot rest solely on government, stressing that every Nigerian must become an active stakeholder in safeguarding public infrastructure, mentoring young citizens and promoting ethical leadership.
The minister also pledged sustained FCT support for programmes that instill discipline, responsibility and patriotism, especially among youths who she noted remain the country’s most critical demographic for long-term national renewal.
She lauded the initiative as a rallying point for Nigerians—leaders, institutions and citizens—to own their roles in building a country that reflects shared values and collective aspirations.
The “My Nigeria, My Responsibility” campaign is expected to roll out institutional and community-based activities across the country in the coming months.
