Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has urged intending Christian pilgrims from the territory to use their journey to the Holy Lands of Israel and Jordan as a platform to pray for Nigeria’s peace, unity, and development.
Speaking at the pre-departure orientation programme in Abuja on Monday, Mahmoud described the pilgrimage as a spiritually enriching exercise that should not be reduced to mere tourism, but a moment for reflection, renewal, and intercession for the country.
She noted that the 2025 Easter pilgrimage had been delayed due to the escalating geopolitical crises in the Middle East, but assured pilgrims that the FCT Administration is committed to safeguarding their welfare during the trip.
“The pilgrimage is an opportunity not just for personal spiritual growth but also to intercede for Nigeria.
“I urge you all to use this journey to seek God’s blessings and pray for peace, unity, and development in our country,” Mahmoud said.
The minister also reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT Administration to ensure that the welfare and security of pilgrims remained a top priority.

She commended the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) for what she called its “vital role” in coordinating pilgrimages nationwide.
Director of the FCT Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Gloria Dandam, reminded the intending pilgrims that the journey should be seen as a “sacred duty” rather than a luxury trip.
“As pilgrims, you are not just visiting historical landmarks; you are embarking on a journey of renewal, reflection, and redemption. It is a call to deepen your faith and strengthen your relationship with God,” Dandam told the participants.
She added that experts from various fields had been engaged to provide the necessary orientation to guide pilgrims during the trip, stressing the importance of collective support and encouragement throughout the exercise.
