The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Alagbon has officially responded to online allegations that popular singer Rema utilized its officers to intimidate an interior decorator he had contracted for a renovation project.
The controversy began when a Nigerian software artist, known on social media as @software_artist, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, September 16, to accuse Rema of using the police to intimidate and harass an interior decorator named Amaka Obasi, whom the singer contracted to renovate his new residence.
In a thread of tweets, the artist alleged that Rema leveraged the influence of police officers to intimidate Obasi, preventing her from demanding payment for her services.
Responding to the allegations, the spokesperson for the FCID Alagbon, ASP Maiyegun Aminat, clarified the situation by stating that Rema, through his lawyers, filed a petition against the interior decorator.
Aminat said Rema, in the petition, detailed an agreement made on April 4, 2023, between him and Obasi’s firm, Ardeb Lifestyle Company.
She revealed that the singer in his petition alleged that he made a part payment of ₦287,000,000 for the interior decoration contract valued at ₦386,000,000.

“However, upon inspection, the petitioner discovered that the project was incomplete, and the furniture claimed to have been delivered was not in the building.
“The investigation further revealed that after receiving the funds, Miss Obasi failed to meet the terms of the signed agreement and instead transferred part of the money to another account.
“Investigators also noted that the account number used by Ardeb Lifestyle Company was not properly linked or registered.
“Both parties were accordingly advised to engage an independent valuer to ascertain the position of funds and project execution.
“Instead, Miss Obasi declined to provide either a valuer’s report or a legal representative until she was eventually apprehended today,” the FCID declared.
It advised the public to be wary of individuals who circulate misleading information aimed at deceiving well-meaning Nigerians.
The police reiterated that it does not serve personal interests or vendettas, but operates strictly in accordance with the law.
