The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has requested an explanation from Air Peace regarding its failure to refund passengers ticket fares.
The issue has arisen due to numerous complaints from passengers nationwide, particularly after the airline canceled flights without returning their flight money.
In a statement on Monday, the commission’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, highlighted that these actions violate consumer protection laws.
According to him, the laws ensure that consumers have the right to receive their refunds promptly if a service provider, like Air Peace, does not fulfill their commitments.
He said that the notice is serious, as failing to comply could lead to penalties, including fines or even imprisonment.
“This provision enshrines the principle of fair dealing and safeguards consumers against unfair, unjust, or unreasonable practices by service-providers.
“In a formal summons dated June 13, 2025, the commission, invoking Sections 32 and 33 of the FCCP Act, 2018, requires Air Peace to appear before the commission at its Abuja headquarters on June 23.

“Specifically, Section 33(3) of the FCCP Act mandates compliance and failure attracts severe sanctions including fines or imprisonment.
“The airline is further directed to produce documentary evidence including complaint log for refunds over the past 12 months.
“Others are total records of processed refunds to date, list of cancelled flights on all routes within the past 12 months, and remedial actions taken to mitigate consumer hardship resulting from cancelled flights,” he said.
In 2024, the FCCPC also began looking into other complaints about high ticket prices for some routes operated by Air Peace.
In response to those inquiries, the airline has taken legal steps to prevent the commission from continuing its investigation.
However, this summons regarding refunds is considered a separate issue.
