The Federated Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bayelsa State Council has elected a new leadership to pilot its affairs for the next three years.
During the exercise, 17 out of the 18 accredited members unanimously returned Mr. Tife Owolabi of the Reuters News Agency for a second term, while Mr. Emem Idio of the Vanguard Newspaper is the new Secretary of the Chapel as Mrs. Elizabeth Ayaka-Joseph emerged as the new Assistant Secretary as Declared by the three member Electoral Committee led by Mr. Femi Folaranmi of the Sun as Chairman, Mr. Willie Bassey of the Daily Trust as Secretary and Mr. Alambo Datonye of Radio Nigeria as member.
The election supervised by the leadership of the State Council of the NUJ, led by the Chairman, Mr. Tonye Yemoleigha, and the Secretary, Dr. Stanley Imgbi and the witnessed by the Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organisation, Bayelsa State, Mr. Bekinwariye David West.

In a post election remark, Mr. Owolabi who is to administer the Correspondents Chapel for a second and final term thanked members for the confidence reposed in them, pledging to run an all inclusive administration, build capacity, complete outstanding projects and improve on welfare of members.
Chairman of the State Council of the NUJ, Mr. Tonye Yemoleigha congratulated members for their maturity and peaceful conduct, describing the Federated Correspondents Chapel as the elite group within the Union.
In a goodwill message, Chairman of the CLO in Bayelsa, Mr. Bekinwariye David-West commended for conducting the election in a crisis-free atmosphere, urging Journalists to live to their responsibility as the Fourth Estate of the Realm.
Highlights of the event was swearing in and the administering of oath of office to the newly elected leadership of the Federated Correspondents of the Bayelsa State Council of the NUJ.
