Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has debunked widespread reports suggesting he has abandoned the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing the claims as false and misleading.
Speculation about Fayemi’s alleged defection intensified after reports emerged listing him among APC stakeholders rumored to be plotting an exit over internal party conflicts. The controversy gained traction following the recent defection of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
However, taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Fayemi categorically denied the claims, reaffirming his commitment to the APC. He described the reports as unfounded, reiterating that he remains a card-carrying foundation member of the party and has no intention of leaving.
In his statement, Fayemi acknowledged ongoing challenges within the APC but emphasized that there is still time for the party to embrace greater internal democracy and inclusivity. He urged party leaders to take proactive steps in addressing grievances and fostering unity ahead of future elections.
His denial comes amid heightened political maneuvering, with several key figures reportedly considering their options as tensions persist within the ruling party.
