The escalating violence between the Eiye and Maphite cult groups in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has claimed another life with 45-year-old Solomon Christopher, a father of five being the latest casualty.

Community sources revealed that Christopher, who was reportedly not affiliated to any cult group was attacked and killed in what appears to be a retaliatory strike. His tragic death comes amid growing chaos in the community, where cultists are increasingly targeting rivals’ homes and properties.

A resident, speaking on the condition of anonymity reported that two individuals were recently killed at Okpalefe Junction, while another person survived a gunshot attack.

“If they don’t find their targets, they destroy their properties. The situation has become unbearable,” the resident lamented.

Shortly after Christopher’s killing, another man identified only as Sam, was attacked and shot, further intensifying the tense atmosphere in the community.

In a related incident, another unidentified father of three was killed some days earlier, although details surrounding his death remain unclear.

The violence has extended to areas such as Oteri-Ughelli, where clashes between the Eiye and Maphite groups were reported, resulting in more casualties and heightening tensions.

Community members have called on the Delta State Police Command to urgently intervene, arrest those responsible, and restore peace. Efforts to reach the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, for an official response were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, residents remain on edge in the affected areas with many fleeing their homes as the crisis continues to unfold. Concerned community leaders have appealed to youths in the community to reject violence and embrace peace, particularly as the yuletide season approaches.
