The number of fatalities from the police shooting at the Owode Onírin Spare Parts Market in Lagos on August 27 has increased to six, with affected families continuing to seek justice.
It was reported that four Mobile Policemen, led by Abiodun Hakeem Ariori, entered the market in a violent manner and opened fire, resulting in the immediate deaths of four traders.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the former spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed that the officers involved have been arrested, and Ariori, who later turned himself in, was declared wanted.
The situation worsened when two additional traders died from their injuries in the hospital. Aderemi Adeoye, the most recent victim, passed away on September 1 after undergoing surgery and spending several days on life support.
In total, six traders lost their lives: Seyi Akinboye, Taiwo Adeoye, Dare Mufutau, Abraham Temilola, Wale Adebayo, and Aderemi Adeoye.

During a press conference in Lagos organized by the Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights, grieving family members shared the last moments of their loved ones, with Adeoye’s mother expressing her devastation over the loss of her first son.
“One of his brothers called me to inform me that my son was in the hospital. They said he had been shot while at his shop. When I arrived the next morning, I found him on oxygen after surgery.
“He stayed there until September 1, when he was pronounced dead. He was my first son. His wife had just given birth to a baby. The baby is less than seven months old. I cared for him and his mother for years.
They took him away from me. How do I support his wife and child now?”
Abiodun Temilola, speaking on behalf of the Idowu family, mentioned that Idowu died while being transported after doctors at Ikorodu General Hospital were unable to remove a bullet lodged in his body.
