The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has partnered with MTN Nigeria to introduce free airport WiFi services at two of the country’s busiest gateways, marking a significant step in improving passenger experience and strengthening digital infrastructure in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The complimentary internet service is now live at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal 2 in Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The official unveiling took place in Lagos, where the Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, was represented by the Director of Airport Operations, Captain Abdullahi Mahmood. MTN Nigeria was represented by its Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Lynda Saint-Nwafor, on behalf of Chief Executive Officer Karl Toriola.
Speaking at the event, Captain Mahmood described the rollout as a major milestone for FAAN and a practical benchmark for digital transformation across Nigerian airports. He said the collaboration with MTN Nigeria highlights the value of effective Public-Private Partnerships in modernising infrastructure, improving service delivery, and supporting the country’s growing digital economy.

The free WiFi service is available to passengers and other airport users without charge. According to FAAN, the initiative will be extended to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport temporary terminal and other international airports nationwide within the next three months.
Mahmood added that the project aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and complements the reform efforts of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo. He noted that improving connectivity at airports is central to enhancing Nigeria’s global competitiveness and meeting international standards for passenger comfort.
In her remarks, Saint-Nwafor assured users that the internet service would be reliable, secure, and efficient. She praised FAAN’s management for its commitment and foresight, stating that the partnership reflects a shared vision to deliver world-class digital solutions in critical public infrastructure.
The launch of free airport WiFi at Lagos and Abuja international airports is expected to ease communication for travellers, support business activities, and position Nigeria’s aviation hubs as digitally enabled transit points in West Africa.
