The European Union (EU) has applauded the post-conflict recovery initiatives of Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, with a particular focus on the Muna Vocational Training Institute.
The institute, established to empower youths, especially those affected by the decade-long Boko Haram insurgency, has been hailed as a model for recovery and development.
During a visit to Maiduguri, the Head of the EU Mission to Borno State, Ambassador Gautier Mignot, commended the management of the vocational institute, noting its significant impact on the people of the state.
Speaking to journalists, Ambassador Mignot said, “this is a remarkable achievement and a reflection of Governor Zulum’s vision. Vocational training is essential for the youth, and it’s a concept we’ve seen work well in Europe, particularly in Germany.”
He highlighted the EU’s commitment in supporting the state through projects aimed at humanitarian assistance and sustainable development.
The EU, he added, considers Borno State a priority for cooperation in the coming years.
Karen Jensen, representing the German ambassador to Nigeria, also praised the initiative, particularly its focus on empowering women and girls.

She noted the high participation of women in vocational programmes, including male-dominated fields such as welding.
“It’s crucial to involve women and girls in vocational education. What I see here is inspiring,” Jensen said.
The EU delegation also met with Governor Zulum at the Government House, Maiduguri, where they reaffirmed their partnership with the state in peace-building projects.
These efforts will be implemented in collaboration with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
Additionally, Koffy Dominique Kouacou, the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Nigeria and ECOWAS, commended Governor Zulum’s leadership in promoting agriculture and local economic growth.
He pledged FAO’s support in enhancing agricultural productivity and building resilient food systems to empower local communities.
