Eruku community in Kwara State has suffered yet another blow as bandits returned to the area on Sunday and abducted a farmer identified as Annas Aasanru. The attack came less than a week after thirty-eight members of the Christ Apostolic Church Oke-Isegun were freed following five days in captivity, a period that claimed three lives and left the community shaken. The released victims are still undergoing medical care under the supervision of the state government at a hotel in the GRA area of Ilorin.
The latest attack has deepened fear among residents, many of whom have not recovered from the trauma of the earlier incident. According to the police, the armed men struck around midday on a farmland along Koro Road in Eruku, seized the forty-year-old farmer and disappeared into the surrounding forest.

The spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the report and said a combined team of police officers, soldiers and local vigilantes had been deployed for an extensive search and rescue effort. She assured the public that security agencies are pursuing every lead to secure the victim’s safe return.
A community leader, who asked not to be named, said the attackers were believed to be Fulani or Bororo men and were armed with cutlasses and rifles. He described the assault as another sign of the rising insecurity that has gripped the area in recent months.
Sunday’s abduction is the second major incident in Eruku within a month, adding to concern over the increasing boldness of criminal groups in the region.
