Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, member representing Ethiope East/Ethiope West Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives and the daughter of Chief James Ibori, former Delta State governor, has announced her resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
In a formal letter addressed to the Local Government Chairman of the PDP in Ethiope West, Delta State, dated December 5, 2024, Ibori-Suenu cited exclusion from the state chapter of the party and the ongoing national leadership crisis as reasons for her decision.
“I formally resign as a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect. I surrender my attached membership card with membership number 0777144 as furtherance of my complete dissociation and disengagement from the party,” the letter reads.
She described the leadership crisis within the party as “lingering” and lamented that it had split the party into “implacable camps,” making it challenging to continue her political journey under its umbrella.

Hon. Ibori-Suenu’s decision marks a shift in Delta State politics, given her prominent role as a representative of one of the state’s key federal constituencies.
The resignation has further caused discontent within the PDP, as internal conflicts have plagued the party’s national and state structures, leading to defections and political realignments across the country.
As of now, Hon. Ibori-Suenu has not disclosed her next political move. However, analysts suggest this resignation could be a prelude to joining the All Progress Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Efforts to reach the PDP Delta State chapter for comments on the resignation have been unsuccessful at the time of this report.
