Enugu State has taken a fresh step to strengthen public safety as Governor Peter Mbah presented a new batch of advanced security equipment supplied by the Enugu State Security Trust Fund. The items include two long-range VTOL drones, ten Hilux patrol trucks, forty motorcycles, and hundreds of bulletproof vests and helmets. The state government described the move as part of a wider effort to keep Enugu firmly secured as economic activity grows.

Speaking at the Government House, the governor praised the Trustees for their support and noted that the new equipment would reinforce the systems already in place. He pointed to the Command and Control Centre, the statewide AI-supported camera network, and the Distress Response Squad fleet as examples of the state’s ongoing investment. He explained that these tools help prevent crime and allow security teams to react quickly whenever a threat arises. He added that violent crime has dropped sharply in the last year, though his administration continues to tighten every loose end because criminal elements are always searching for weak points.

The Chairman of the Security Trust Fund, represented by Nath Udeh, said the latest deployment leaves criminals with no room to hide. He observed a rise in business travel and commercial interest in Enugu, which he attributed to renewed confidence in safety. He described packed flights and a surge in corporate retreats as signs of a state that has regained its footing.

Further technical details were given by the Executive Secretary, Engr. Chinedu Ani, who said the new drones can cover up to one hundred kilometres without a runway. Each craft carries thermal, night and day cameras supported by artificial intelligence, allowing officers to track vehicles and individuals across challenging terrain. He said the capability places Enugu far ahead of most states in surveillance technology.

A Trustee of the Fund and Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onyekachi Onyia, said the heavy investment is necessary because of the state’s central place in the security of the South East. He warned that neglecting Enugu would expose the entire region to danger and affirmed that the church supports every effort that keeps communities safe.
