Engr. Mrs. Elozino Olaniya has made history as the first Delta-born female Managing Director of Midwestern Oil and Gas Company Limited, marking her appointment with a courtesy visit to Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, at Government House, Asaba.

Leading a management delegation to the state capital on Tuesday, Olaniya reaffirmed the company’s commitment to community development, safety, and environmental sustainability, describing her leadership approach as one built on shared responsibility and long-term partnerships with host communities.

She said oil and gas operations should serve as a platform for inclusive development rather than focus solely on profit generation, noting that Midwestern Oil has consistently integrated community interests into its core business strategy.

According to her, the company has significantly expanded investments in education and capacity building, awarding scholarships to 298 students across Nigeria this year, including beneficiaries from Delta State and other host communities. Some of the students, she disclosed, are currently studying abroad in countries such as the United States and Latvia.

Olaniya also emphasised the company’s focus on technical capacity development for engineers and technicians, stressing that building local expertise is essential for sustainable growth in the energy sector.

She highlighted several social investment initiatives undertaken by the firm, including solar power projects, water schemes, and the construction of civic centres in host communities.

On operational standards, the Managing Director reported over seven million man-hours of safe operations, attributing the achievement to strict adherence to discipline, transparency, and professional accountability. She maintained that environmental stewardship remains central to the company’s operations, alongside reforms aimed at preserving natural resources for future generations.

In his remarks, Governor Oborevwori congratulated Olaniya on her appointment, describing her emergence as both historic and inspirational for Delta State and the broader energy industry.

He commended Midwestern Oil for its sustained investments in education, youth empowerment, and community development, noting that such efforts align with the state government’s development priorities.

The governor also praised the company’s safety record and environmental consciousness, describing them as critical standards in the oil and gas sector. He assured the firm of the state’s support in providing an enabling environment for responsible business operations and encouraged deeper collaboration in renewable energy, infrastructure development, and youth employment.

The visit underscored a shared commitment between the Delta State Government and Midwestern Oil to promote inclusive growth, sustainable development, and responsible resource management.

Olaniya’s appointment is widely regarded as a milestone for Delta indigenes and a significant step toward greater female representation in leadership within Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
