The family of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has rejected reports that security operatives recovered sophisticated phone-tapping equipment and sensitive documents during a search of his Abuja residence.
In a statement issued on Monday, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency, described the allegations as false and politically motivated. He insisted that no electronic surveillance devices were seized from the property.
The rebuttal followed a report by The Nation, which cited affidavits filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory. According to the court filings, ICPC operatives claimed they recovered electronic magnetic equipment allegedly capable of intercepting conversations, along with documents said to be sensitive to national security.
The search was reportedly conducted in the presence of El-Rufai’s wife, Hadiza Isma El-Rufai, and their son.

However, Mohammed El-Rufai maintained that the claims were inaccurate and urged the public to disregard what he termed speculative accounts. He did not provide further details about the items recovered but stressed that the narrative being circulated misrepresented the situation.
The development has drawn public attention, given El-Rufai’s prominent role in national politics and ongoing debates around governance and security oversight. As of press time, the ICPC had not issued additional clarification beyond the affidavits referenced in court proceedings.
The matter is expected to proceed within the judicial process at the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
