The Chairman of Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Mr. Bayo Omojola, has warned residents to desist from setting farms and bushes on fire during the dry season saying such acts could lead to disaster.
Omojola gave the warning in an interview with newsmen on November 14, 2024, in Ikole-Ekiti, while advising farmers to keep their farms clean to avoid burning and avoid environmental pollution and destruction of properties.
” We are getting closer to the dry season on a daily basis and the level of heat is increasing as well. I want to warn residents to desist from burning refuse in bushes, and setting bushes on fire.

” These acts can cause environmental pollution and end up destroying other people’s properties.
“I want to urge our farmers to be security conscious and careful in order not to destroy their farms as a result of bush burning.
” We are equally moving towards the season of heat wave and high temperature and I feel it will be better we sensitise our people to desist from indiscriminate bush burning,” he said.
Omojola also urged environmental health officers to continue to educate residents on the dangers of indiscriminate bush burning.
