An All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Kayode Ojo, has allegedly accused the state government and security agencies of systematically targeting his supporters across the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, Ojo said members of his ruling party APC, were being treated as adversaries for backing his candidacy, calling the actions “a serious assault on democracy, the rule of law, and internal party freedom in Ekiti State.”

He alleged that his supporters have faced arrests, intimidation, surveillance, unlawful detention, and denial of entitlements.

Ojo spotlighted the arrest of Akogun Abayomi, also known as Lustay, who was allegedly detained secretly on January 1, without a warrant, and denied access to legal counsel, family, and medication.

The aspirant accused the police in Ekiti State of abusing their powers for political purposes and criticised the judiciary for allegedly legitimising repression through repeated use of Form K.

Beyond arrests, Mr. Ojo said former political officeholders perceived to support his political aspirations were being denied severance allowances.

These allegations are coming amid heightened tension within the APC in the state ahead of the June 20 governorship election.

Ojo appealed to national leaders, legal luminaries, former governors of Ekiti State, civil society organisations, and traditional rulers to intervene and uphold the rule of law.

He demanded the immediate release of his detained supporters and an independent investigation into the allegations.
