The Chief Imam of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Lt.-Col. Husein Eleje, has called on Nigerians to prioritize the sanctity of human life above all else, warning against the alarming trend of violent and ritual killings across the country.

Delivering a soul-stirring sermon at the Eid prayer ground in Abakpa Military Cantonment, Enugu, on Friday, Eleje emphasized that Almighty Allah holds human life sacred and will never approve of its senseless destruction. He referenced the Holy Quran’s account of Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering obedience, noting that God ultimately stopped him from sacrificing his son and instead provided a ram; a clear sign that Allah does not delight in human bloodshed.

The Army cleric stressed that Eid-el-Kabir is not just a festival of rituals but a divine reminder of faith, obedience, and charity. He said the celebration symbolizes unconditional trust in God, just as Prophet Ibrahim demonstrated, and offers Muslims the opportunity to show love, share blessings, and make personal sacrifices for the betterment of society.

Eleje warned that the increasing disregard for human life in Nigeria must be urgently reversed, urging citizens to embrace values that protect and uplift humanity. According to him, true sacrifice isn’t about material loss but about giving one’s time, resources, and comfort for the peace and progress of others.

The cleric further called on Nigerians to support leaders with prayers, obedience, and constructive engagement, emphasizing the need for God-fearing governance. He prayed for President Bola Tinubu, the Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and all senior military officials, asking God to grant them wisdom, good health, and divine guidance in steering the nation toward unity and security.

The Eid prayer, attended by military personnel, families, and members of the community, concluded with the symbolic slaughtering of the Sallah ram by Lt.-Col. Eleje, signifying the spirit of sacrifice and submission to God’s will.
