Augustine Eguavoen, Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation and former Super Eagles head coach, has completed FIFA’s highly regarded 20 month Technical Leadership Diploma Programme in Zurich, Switzerland, placing Nigeria among a select group of football nations shaping the future of the game.
The intensive programme, organised by world football governing body FIFA, brought together 32 Technical Directors from different parts of the world for advanced training in football leadership, strategy, and development. The final phase ended with a graduation ceremony held at FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich.
Eguavoen stood out as one of only two representatives from Africa admitted into the elite programme. The other African graduate was Namibia’s Technical Director, Jaqueline Shipanga, highlighting the limited but growing presence of African football administrators at the highest levels of global technical leadership.

The FIFA Technical Leadership Diploma is designed to equip both current and emerging football leaders with the knowledge and practical tools required to manage modern football systems. The curriculum focuses on long term football development, high performance structures, technical planning, and effective leadership within national football associations.
Eguavoen’s graduation is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s football technical framework, especially in areas of youth development, coaching education, and long term strategic planning. His achievement also reinforces Nigeria’s visibility within FIFA’s global football leadership space at a time when technical expertise is becoming central to national team success.
