The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has reorganised the Police Mobile Force to handle internal security challenges and boost operational efficiency.
This was announced on X (formerly Twitter) by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Tuesday.
This announcement was made during a recent conference with PMF squadron commanders in Abuja, where the inspector general of police stressed the importance of realigning the Police Mobile Force with its original purpose as an elite unit dedicated to swiftly addressing riots, emergencies, and violent threats.
Egbetokun expressed concerns regarding the misallocation of Police Mobile Force personnel to non-essential roles, such as providing escort and guard services for private individuals, which has diluted the unit’s effectiveness.
To counter this, he outlined several key measures, including the withdrawal of Police Mobile Force personnel from unauthorised duties, the implementation of regular quarterly training focused on ethics and professionalism, and the establishment of fully equipped, combat-ready units at all squadrons for quick tactical support.
He emphasised that Police Mobile Force commanders will bear responsibility for their personnel’s conduct and are encouraged to foster discipline, uphold human rights, and excel operationally through consistent training and mentorship.
The inspector general of police also shared plans for new leadership strategies and capacity-building initiatives to better prepare the unit for contemporary security challenges while aligning with international best practices.
