The Kano Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction and sentence of Sale Bala and Abdullahi Hamisu by a Federal High Court sitting in Kano and presided over by Justice S. M. Shuaibu
The EFCC announced this via it’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday.
According to the EFCC post, Sale Bala and Abdullahi Hamisu, were convicted after being found guilty of failing to declare $86,500, 305,150 Saudi Riyal, 560,000 CFA, and 200 Euros, in violation of Section 3(3) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act of 2022.
The prosecution laid out a three-count charge of money laundering against both individuals, to which they pleaded guilty.
One charge specifically alleged that the defendants, along with the currently at-large Ibrahim Saeed, failed to declare the $86,500 at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on or about April 27, 2025.
Counsel for the prosecution, Musa Isah, urged the court to impose appropriate penalties based on their admissions of guilt.
Justice Shuaibu subsequently ruled against the defendants on all counts, convicting them and ordering the forfeiture of the undeclared funds to the federal government.

The case stemmed from the actions of the Nigeria Customs Service, who apprehended Sale Bala on April 27, 2025, while he attempted to clear an unaccompanied shipment labeled as “bedsheets.”
Upon inspection, customs officials discovered concealed foreign currency within the baggage.
During questioning, Bala indicated that he was tasked with clearing the consignment for delivery to Abdullahi Hamisu.
Following Hamisu’s arrival to collect the items, he was also taken into custody.
The EFCC was subsequently engaged for continuous investigation and legal proceedings against both individuals.
