The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has dismissed a viral “wanted” poster circulating online that falsely targets Nigerian comedian Emmanuel Ejekwu, popularly known as Sabinus, describing it as fake and misleading.
The anti-graft agency issued the clarification on Thursday through its official social media platforms, clearly labelling the poster as false and cautioning those responsible to desist from spreading misinformation.

According to the commission, the altered poster was designed to resemble an official EFCC notice and falsely alleged that the comedian was wanted for fraud. It also included a fabricated address in Victoria Island, Lagos, further giving the impression of authenticity.
The EFCC stated that it has not declared Sabinus wanted and has not issued any warrant or statement against him. It urged the public to disregard the viral content and rely on verified information from credible sources.
The agency also warned against the dangers of fake news, noting that such misinformation can mislead the public and damage reputations. It, however, did not confirm whether any individuals have been identified or investigated in connection with the false post.
As of the time of filing this report, Sabinus has not publicly responded to the incident.
The development highlights growing concerns over the spread of manipulated content on social media and the need for greater public awareness around information verification.
