The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought charges against Prof. Armayau Bichi, a former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Dutsinma, before Justice Musa Abubakar at the Katsina State High Court.
This was disclosed via the commission’s official X handle on Thursday, 5 February,2026.
According to the report, he faces five counts of bribery totaling N19,700,000.
Bichi was charged alongside two individuals, Lawal Mani and Aliyu Jari, who are alleged to have assisted him in receiving the bribes.
Prof. Bichi, is accused of receiving bribes through the second and third defendants as kickbacks for various contracts awarded during his tenure as vice chancellor.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In light of their pleas, the prosecution’s counsel, Salihu Sani, requested a trial date to allow the prosecution to gather witnesses and present their case.
Defense attorneys, A. L Yusuf and Raphael Henry each filed a bail application for their clients.
Justice Abubakar subsequently granted bail to each defendant in the amount of N5 million with one surety of the same amount.
The case was adjourned to March 12, 2026, for the trial to begin.
