The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has once again intensified its clampdown on cybercrime, with the arrest of nine suspected internet fraudsters in Kaduna State.
The arrest, which was executed by operatives from the EFCC’s Kaduna Zonal Directorate, took place in the Sabo area of the state capital on Monday, June 2, 2025.
According to a press release signed by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity at the EFCC, the operation followed credible intelligence that linked the suspects to various forms of online fraud, popularly referred to as “Yahoo Yahoo” in local parlance.
The EFCC revealed that the raid was intelligence-driven, targeting a suspected hub of online fraudulent activity. Upon receiving actionable intelligence, operatives swiftly moved to the location in Sabo, where the nine individuals were apprehended without incident.

“The suspects were arrested on Monday, June 2, 2025, following actionable intelligence that linked them to fraudulent internet activities,” the statement read.
During the operation, the EFCC operatives recovered a range of items believed to have been used in the course of the alleged cybercrimes or acquired through the proceeds of such activities. The confiscated items include: Nine iPhones; Seventeen Android smartphones; Four power banks; Three necklaces; Two bangles; One headphone
The assortment of high-end mobile devices is typical of items often recovered in internet fraud cases, as they are commonly used to create fake identities, spoof emails, and deceive victims, especially in romance scams and fake business transactions.
The EFCC has confirmed that investigations are already underway to gather additional evidence and verify the full scope of the suspects’ alleged criminal activities. Once the investigations are concluded, the suspects will be formally charged to court.
“They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the commission stated, maintaining its resolve to prosecute cybercrime offenders in line with Nigeria’s cybercrime laws.
