The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a suspected internet fraudster, Olawole Sunday, for allegedly purchasing bank account details from individuals to facilitate his financial crimes.
In a statement issued by Dele Oyewale, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, the agency disclosed that Sunday’s scheme involved recruiting young people to open multiple bank accounts.
The suspect reportedly paid participants between ₦25,000 and ₦50,000 per account in exchange for their full banking details, including Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards.
The case unraveled when Sunday allegedly used the account details of one Uyi Eghosa to defraud a victim of ₦2 million under the guise of forex trading.

Eghosa, after being arrested claimed ignorance of the fraudulent activity, confessing during investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, that he had surrendered his account details and ATM card to Sunday after receiving ₦25,000 as payment.
“The Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested Sunday following Eghosa’s disclosure during interrogation.
“Eghosa maintained he was unaware his account had been weaponized to defraud members of the public. Upon arrest, Sunday confessed to the crime,” the statement disclosed.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said the suspect will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
