In a major crackdown on cybercrime, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 74 suspected internet fraudsters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The arrest was carried out on Monday, June 30, 2025, by operatives of the EFCC following actionable intelligence that linked the suspects to various internet-related offences.
The suspects were apprehended at Joyous Hotel, located in the Nyanya area of Abuja, during a coordinated sting operation.
According to a statement signed by the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the suspects were rounded up based on credible information that they were involved in online fraud activities, popularly known as ‘Yahoo Yahoo.’
“Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested 74 suspected internet fraudsters,” the statement said.
“They were arrested on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Joyous Hotel, Nyanya in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, following actionable intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet-related offences.”

The discovery of a firearm has raised further questions about the extent of criminality possibly linked to the suspects beyond cybercrime.
“The operatives also recovered 86 phones, one rifle pistol, and three motorcycles from the suspects,” the EFCC said.
The anti-graft agency confirmed that investigations are currently ongoing and that the suspects will be charged in court once profiling is complete.
As Nigeria continues to battle the menace of cybercrime, the EFCC says it will not relent in bringing perpetrators to justice and dismantling the networks that enable internet fraud.
