The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 25 suspects of engaging in internet fraud during a planned sting operation in Kano.
The arrests took place on Monday in close proximity to the Bayero University Kano (BUK) New Site, following extensive surveillance and actionable intelligence regarding their alleged cybercrime activities.
The spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale shared the details of the operation in an official statement released in Abuja on Wednesday.
He confirmed that all the individuals arrested are undergraduate students at BUK, highlighting the troubling trend of academic involvement in cybercriminal activities.

According to him, during the operation, law enforcement officers recovered several items that are typically associated with internet fraud, including multiple mobile phones, laptops, internet routers, and a Honda Accord sedan, which may be linked to their fraudulent activities.
The EFCC’s investigations indicate that the suspects were allegedly involved in various cybercrimes, including identity theft, financial scams, and other internet fraud schemes. These arrests underscore the commission’s commitment to combating cybercrime and protecting the integrity of the financial system in Nigeria.
Upon the conclusion of their investigations, the suspects are expected to be formally charged in court.
