The Federal Ministry of Education has established a seven-member committee dedicated to addressing the escalating rate of bullying in schools across the nation.
This was contained in a statement issued by the ministry’s Director of Press, Boriwo Folashade.
Folashade said the initiative underscores the ministry’s unwavering commitment to ensuring students’ welfare and fostering a safe and conducive learning environment for all.
In the statement, the Minister of Education, Morufu Olatunji Alausa, highlighted the urgent need for effective intervention strategies to combat bullying, particularly due to its profound psychological effects on students, which can hinder their academic performance and overall well-being.
The newly formed committee will systematically review reported cases of bullying and implement swift, and decisive actions to address these incidents.

The statement added that the new initiative will be in synergy with the work of the existing 21-member team that is focused on developing a comprehensive national anti-bullying policy.
The ministry has adopted a strict zero-tolerance policy towards bullying, calling on school administrators, educators, parents, and students to collaborate in supporting this vital initiative.
“This approach not only aims to curb the prevalence of bullying, but also seeks to cultivate an atmosphere of mutual respect, and understanding within school communities.
“The actions being taken reflect the current administration’s commitment to prioritizing education as a fundamental driver of national development and social progress in Nigeria,” the ministry stated.
