The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Edo State has directed all 18 local government chairmen to ensure that their officials wear customised caps featuring President Bola Tinubu’s insignia during official meetings.
The directive was issued by the state ALGON Chairman, Sunny Ekpeson, on Saturday, following a similar order by the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, who earlier mandated members of his cabinet to publicly display loyalty to President Tinubu by wearing branded outfits with the president’s emblem.
Gov. Okpebholo, who credited his electoral victory to Tinubu’s support, had said his administration’s success was tied to the president’s leadership.
“This could not have happened if we did not have a responsible president. We have done many elections here, and the major problem we have had is that the president is not with us, but today we say thank you,” the governor said.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Agbukor Apeakhuye, Ekpeson said the dress directive applies to supervisory councillors, senior special assistants, and special assistants at the local government level.

He described the move as a show of grassroots solidarity with President Tinubu’s administration and a strategy to consolidate political support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“This is directing all 18 local government chairmen across the state to mandate their officials to wear customised caps bearing President Bola Tinubu’s insignia during official meetings at council secretariats,” the statement read.
“The pledged 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu from Edo State must not remain a mere aspiration. We must begin to build that momentum from the grassroots now, and this includes symbolic acts that reflect our political commitment.”
Ekpeson added that the uniform display of the president’s emblem across council meetings would foster “political alignment” and demonstrate Edo’s loyalty to Tinubu’s leadership.
The directive comes amid efforts by the governor to strengthen his political ties with the presidency, as the state’s political actors begin to position themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
