The senator representing Ebonyi North senatorial district, Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi has flagged off an empowerment programme for 235 persons of his constituents.
Items distributed by the senator include; grinding machines, sewing machines and cash to start up their businesses.
Senator Nwebonyi, who is also the deputy Senate Chief whip of the 10th Assembly said the distribution was done in batches as part of events outlined to benefit his constituents while disclosing that his programme would continue until January 2024.
According to him, “Within five months I have been able to attract this empowerment of grinding machines with some money for my people to start up a business.
“This is just the beginning, by the 7th of January I will be empowering more than 200 constituents with motorcycles, vehicles, and cash because things are hard and leaders must make things easy for the people”.

He maintained that the essence of empowerment is to assist the less privileged persons and create jobs to engage the youths positively and drastically reduce the acts of violence and criminal activities in the society.
“When the youths are engaged they won’t have the time to go into crime, that is what I’m doing, I have distributed over a thousand motorcycles and there would be scholarships and buildings for the poor, we have commissioned over 10 buildings for the less privileged persons”. Nwebonyi disclosed.
It was gathered that the 235 beneficiaries had earlier participated in a training tagged “Empowerment of Youths and Women in Modern Agricultural Practices in Ebonyi North Senatorial District”, which was held at the Re-meritona Hotel in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
