The traditional ruler of Effium Autonomous Community, Sunday Aliba, has called on the Ebonyi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently intervene in rebuilding his war-affected community.

The monarch made the appeal at the grand finale of activities marking his first anniversary on the throne of the Effium Autonomous Community.

Aliba stressed that although peace has returned to the community following the 2021 intra-communal crisis, there is an urgent need for government and humanitarian support to address the lingering humanitarian challenges and rebuild destroyed infrastructure.

He expressed appreciation to the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, for his proactive steps in restoring peace to Effium after years of conflict.

According to the monarch, critical infrastructure such as roads, schools, hospitals, and homes were severely affected during the crisis, leaving many residents displaced and vulnerable.

“There is an urgent need to address the humanitarian crisis facing our people as a result of the unfortunate war.

“Food, medical supplies, and other relief materials should be provided to displaced persons, widows, orphans, and the aged,” he said.

Describing the anniversary as a “new beginning,” the royal father urged the youths, women, and elders to remain united and committed to sustaining the peace currently enjoyed in the community.

“We have to put on our thinking caps to ensure that the peace we enjoy today is sustained. The task ahead is enormous; therefore, all hands must be on deck to ensure the rapid economic recovery of our community,” he added.

As part of efforts to reposition the community for development, the monarch inaugurated 96 persons into his cabinet, elders council, and leaders council, pledging to collaborate closely with them to move Effium forward.

The event attracted dignitaries from neighboring communities in Benue State, as well as traditional rulers from Nsturakpa-Izhia and Umuaghara Izhia.

Highlights of the celebration included masquerade displays, cultural dances, and exhibitions of traditional artifacts, symbolizing the community’s resilience and renewed hope.
