Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has called on the Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team (AMURT) to upgrade facilities in its Primary Healthcare Centres across the state to enhance maternal and child health services.
Speaking at a meeting with Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria, Svein Baera, Governor Nwifuru emphasized the need for a stronger partnership with the Norwegian government to improve key sectors, including healthcare, energy, infrastructure, water, and sanitation. He highlighted that such collaboration aligns with his administration’s commitment to human capital development and improving the well-being of citizens, especially women and children.
A statement released on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, confirmed the governor’s appeal.
“We recognize the immense contributions Norway has made to this country. Through NORCAP, you have established schools that have produced highly skilled individuals. We will always support and cooperate with you to achieve your mission,” Governor Nwifuru stated.
He further urged Norway to assist in providing solar-powered street lights, clean water, and equipping hospitals and primary healthcare centers, particularly in rural areas.

In response, Ambassador Svein Baera praised the governor’s commitment to education and healthcare development in Ebonyi State.
“I have heard about your achievements in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, but seeing them firsthand during my visit yesterday was truly remarkable. As Norway’s ambassador, I believe it is important to explore beyond Abuja and Lagos to understand Nigeria better,” he said.
The envoy also announced plans to inspect the Norwegian College of Agricultural Project, established in Ebonyi over six decades ago, reaffirming Norway’s long-standing relationship with the state.
