Ebonyi State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to reviving abandoned projects and fostering socio-economic development across the state.

The commissioner for information and state Orientation, Barrister Ikeuwa Omebeh, stated this on Monday while addressing members of the correspondents’ chapel of NUJ, who paid him a visit at his Abakaliki residence during a yuletide media engagement.

Omebeh emphasized that the administration views the completion of legacy projects as both a moral and strategic responsibility.

“All projects initiated by previous administrations, from former Governor Sam Egwu to date, are receiving dedicated attention.

“We are not merely restoring them; we are implementing a progressive approach to ensure quality, sustainability, and measurable outcomes,” he said.

Highlighting key infrastructural projects, the Commissioner mentioned the Oferekpe Water Scheme, the International Trade Center, and scholarship programs, noting that these initiatives are being revitalized with “geometrical attention” to maximize their impact on the citizenry.

He further underscored the administration’s broader economic agenda, including the procurement of three aircraft to boost operations at Ebonyi International Airport and the planned establishment of a state-owned cement factory to harness local mineral resources.

“These measures are designed to attract investors, facilitate trade, and position Ebonyi as a regional economic hub,” he added.

Omebeh also highlighted the government’s success in promoting peace and stability, critical factors for development.

He noted that recent resolutions of communal conflicts in war-affected areas, alongside the creation of autonomous communities and the restoration of traditional institutions, have fostered reconciliation and unity across the state.

“Peace is the foundation upon which investment, development, and social harmony are built,” he said.

The Commissioner further recognized the critical role of the media in ensuring accountability, transparency, and democratic governance.

“Journalists are the custodians of public information and have been instrumental in shaping public discourse. The government is committed to maintaining an open-door policy, engaging professionally with media practitioners, and supporting responsible journalism,” Omebeh stated.

Reflecting on his personal journey and professional relationships, Omebeh highlighted the importance of trust, collaboration, and mutual respect in governance.

He commended journalists for their resilience in navigating the challenges of the profession and encouraged continued ethical practice, particularly in the era of emerging digital and unlicensed media platforms.

Expressing optimism for 2026, the Commissioner described the year as one of “bountiful harvests” for Ebonyi State.

He reiterated that the government’s development agenda would continue to align with citizens’ needs, guided by principles of equity, transparency, and accountability.

“By harmonizing peace, infrastructural development, investment promotion, and robust media engagement, Ebonyi State is charting a course for sustainable growth and prosperity.

“This administration is committed to ensuring that no legacy project is left abandoned and that the people’s needs remain at the center of governance,” Omebeh affirmed.
