Relief items and cash worth millions of naira were donated by the Ebonyi State Government to the family of Jeremiah Nwaji, who died alongside his wife, six children, brother and three servants at the recent Ugwu-Oyeama tanker explosion in Enugu state.
Wife of the Ebonyi State governor, Mary-Maudlin Nwifuru donated the items on Wednesday, when she paid a condolence visit to the family in Abofia Village in Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state.
The unfortunate incident which took place on January 25, 2025, led to the death of scores of road users, including children, while injuring many others.
In her condolence message to the family, Mrs. Nwifuru condemned the incident and described the situation as unfortunate and prayed God to rest the souls of the deceased and grant the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Encouraging the family to be strong in faith, and hoping for a better consolation from God, she also prayed for God’s protection on the state to avoid a further occurrence of such magnitude.
Brother to the deceased, Nwajị Ezekiel, explained that his deceased brother and family were coming back from Onitsha in Anambra State where they are based, to attend their father’s burial when the ugly incident occurred.
He called on the state government to facilitate the provision of a legal framework that would stop tanker and heavy duty vehicles from operating in the day time to reduce the number of casualties recorded as a result of tanker explosions in different parts of the country.
