Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers will continue their pursuit of a second AfroBasket title as they face the Teranga Lions of Senegal in a quarter-final match today at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda in Angola.
Nigeria aims to keep its perfect record intact in the tournament as it prepares to compete against its Francophone rivals.
Under the guidance of Coach Mohammed Abdulrahman, the team topped Group B with a full six points to advance to the quarter-finals.
They began their campaign by defeating Madagascar 77-59, followed by a convincing 87-66 win over defending champions Tunisia.
D’Tigers concluded the group stage with a 99-90 victory against Cameroon, achieving three wins in three games.
“Our identity is to play strong defense and then look for quick and easy scoring opportunities,” the coach stated before the match.

“We recognize that we may not be the tallest team, but we see that as an advantage rather than a disadvantage.
“We focus on being quick on the court, applying pressure defensively, attempting steals, and pushing the ball for easy baskets. That’s our style.”
On the other hand, the Teranga Lions kicked off their 2025 AfroBasket journey with an 88-53 win over Uganda but faced a setback with a 91-77 loss to Egypt.
They redeemed themselves by defeating Mali 80-70 in their final group match.
Despite securing two wins out of three, they had to qualify for the quarter-finals, where they defeated South Sudan 78-65 to set up a meeting with Nigeria.
Nigeria and Senegal have a competitive history, having met eight times before, with Nigeria winning five of those encounters and Senegal claiming three victories.
