The Department of State Services (DSS) has emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) through intelligence sharing, in tackling terror financing in Enugu State.
This call for synergy was contained in a post on the anti-graft agency’s X handle on Monday, during the visit of the Enugu State Director of the DSS, Humphrey Ohikhuare, to the EFCC Zonal Director, Mohammed Shuaib Bello.
During the visit, Ohikhuare acknowledged the vital role the commission plays in combating corruption and economic crimes, which he believes is essential for the country’s economic sustainability.
“I as the director here, recognizes your critical roles in combating financial and economic crimes in the country, as it has helped to sustain our economy.
“Also, I commend you for your efforts in the investigation and prosecution of cases of fraudulent individuals, as it has helped us to actually re-strategize and ensure that the country’s resources are utilized for the people,” Ohikhuare said.
He commended the EFCC’s efforts in investigating fraudulent individuals and encouraged a partnership in intelligence gathering to effectively combat terror financing.
Ohikhuare underscored that without proper funding, terrorist activities cannot thrive and that banks often play a role in these transactions.

Responding, Bello acknowledged the proactive relationship between the DSS and the EFCC, highlighting that the two agencies must continue to collaborate to achieve their shared objectives.
He affirmed the EFCC’s commitment to supporting the DSS in their efforts, adding that “the core mandate of the EFCC is to investigate and prosecute economic and financial crimes.
“As you mentioned terrorism, there cannot be terrorism without financing. So, it’s good you are here to collaborate with us and will give you our maximum support.
“Let us share intelligence because without it, both the EFCC and the DSS cannot achieve our mandates. DSS is one of our board members going by our establishment Act, so we have always collaborated with DSS.”
