Delta State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl Child Development Ms. Orode Uduaghan has said the state’s consistency in doing the right things was the reason behind the sustained support from the world bank.
Uduaghan made the assertion in a chat with journalist shortly after the flag off of the 4th edition of the Delta Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (D-CARES) programme, pointing that the state has always held unto and maintained the world bank criterias for selecting beneficiaries for the the program.
Uduaghan said, “You know this is a World Bank support program and you know world bank they have a standard for everything, and for us to be doing this the forth time it means we are doing something right, because there are templates for checking, even our beneficiaries the is monitoring and evaluation, we go back to tell them and find out, how are you using this monies. And now everybody needs some measures, if we notice that you are not doing what we want, you will be taken off the beneficiary list.”
There are measures that we have put in place, is a whole committee, there are about six ministries, there is the ministry of humanitarian, there is economic planning, there is youth, there is women affairs, there Agric, there is the Delta small and medium scale office, there is the job and wealth creation bureau. So you have all of these ministries and agencies coming together.

“We don’t want the case where you get these stipends, or you get starter pack you go and sell it, no, one time gratification is not good enough, put it back in your business, no matter how small, reoccurring income or returns is coming back to you. Use it wisely, use it for your family so that you can grow. We want you to grow.”
Similar the State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Chairman State CARES Steering Committee (SCSC), Mr Sonny Ekedayen, said DELTA-CARES was a World Bank project in partnership with the Nigeria: Community Action (for) Resilience and Economic Stimulus Programme NG-CARES.
Ekedayen, commended Governor Oborevwori for the massive increase in number of beneficiaries, noting that 97,365 Deltans, across six delivery platforms comprising State Cash Transfer Unit, 9,845; Labour Intensive Public Workfare Unit 10,000; Livelihood Support Unit 7,000; Community Driven Development Social Implementation Unit (CDDSIU) 60,000 (60 micro-projects) benefited under result area 1.
He added that 6,020 benefited through the State FADAMA Coordination project under result area 2, while 4,500 benefited through Delta State Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises Development under result area 3, thus bringing the total beneficiaries under 4th tranche to 97,365, while overall total beneficiaries now stood at 208,209.
