Resident doctors at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospitals (UNIMEDTH), Ondo State, last Wednesday, embarked on a two-day warning strike to register their protest against an assault of a colleague, Doctor Sayo.
Doctor Sayo, who works at the Accident and Emergency department, was reportedly assaulted by a relative of an aged patient undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The protesters who carried placards with different inscriptions, called on the State government to urgently provide maximum security for medical officers working in the hospital too checkmate further occurrences.

While condemning the action, the UNIMEDTH President, Association of Resident Doctors, John Matthew urged the state government to provide adequate security in the hospital.
He disclosed that over 100 doctors have left the hospital mainly due to insecurity, adding that only 48 medical doctors are currently working.
Matthew enjoined the hospital management to provide adequate treatment for the assaulted doctor.
However, the operatives of the state vigilante, otherwise known as Amotekun who rescued the Doctor, refused to disclose the names of the assailant.
