Novak Djokovic has pulled out of Serbia’s Davis cup encounter against Denmark as a result of hamstring injury. Serbia are playing Denmark in a first-round qualifying tie, which starts on Friday.
“We are weakened by not playing Novak, but we are still going for the win,” said Serbia captain Viktor Troicki.
“The Danes have a great player in Holger Rune, but our players are also great and I believe in my team.”
The Serbian tennis player had sustained his injury during his quarter-final victory over Alcaraz at the Australian open. But many, including tennis legend John McEnroe, accused him of faking the injury to catch his opponent off guard.

Ahead of the semis, he cancelled all his training sessions, and had his first and only practice 90 minutes before the match.
After the first set, he withdrew from the match, and picked his bags to leave. But shockingly, he was booed by the crowd that even Zverev, had to pacify them during his court side interview and ask them not to jeer a legend like Djokovic.
The Serbian was chasing a record-extending 11th grand slam title in Melbourne, and looked like he was trying to prove a point. But then his run came to a sudden abrupt halt in the semi-finals as he retired hurt after losing the first set against eventual runners-up Alexander Zverev.
Djokovic, 37, later posted a photo of an MRI taken of his left hamstring with the caption: “Thought I’d leave this here for all the sports injury ‘experts’ out there.”
