Nigeria’s sports landscape is buzzing with pride as Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), commends the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) Women’s Basketball Club for their stellar performance at the FIBA Africa Women Basketball League Zone 3 qualifiers in Monrovia, Liberia.

The Nigerian women’s league champions clinched a spot in the FIBA Africa Women’s League Finals, set to take place in Dakar, Senegal, from December 6-12, 2024. Dikko lauded their achievement, noting that MFM’s victory showcases Nigeria’s growing prowess in sports across the continent.

“I’ve closely followed the MFM girls, and it’s inspiring to see them make Nigeria proud by qualifying for the prestigious FIBA Women’s League in Africa. Competing against Africa’s top eight teams is no small feat, and I am confident they’ll make their mark in December,” said Dikko.

Dikko also praised Dr. Daniel Olukoya, MFM’s General Overseer, for his unwavering dedication to youth development and sports in Nigeria. “Dr. Olukoya’s impact on Nigerian sports goes beyond basketball. MFM’s football team made waves in the NPFL and represented Nigeria in the CAF Champions League.

The organization’s success in wrestling and table tennis further aligns with NSC’s mission for local sports growth. We appreciate Dr. Olukoya’s efforts and look forward to collaborating to enhance youth opportunities through sports,” he added.

Dikko congratulated the Nigerian Customs team on their impressive journey to the semifinals, where they ultimately lost to MFM in a thrilling showdown. The MFM Women’s Basketball Club secured their victory over Nigeria Customs at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Monrovia, earning the right to represent Nigeria in Dakar.

With MFM’s upcoming showdown in Dakar fast approaching, the team is set to showcase Nigerian excellence on a continental stage, symbolizing a bright future for Nigerian women in sports.
