A coalition of opposition House of Representatives members has said that political survival, desperation, and greed for public funds are the sole motivation for the pro-Wike groups behind the political crisis in Rivers State.

The House members in a statement on Friday, by their spokesperson, Rep. Ikenga Ugochinyere, declared that the former Speaker, Martin Amaewhule and his 27 lawmakers remain sacked, and should stop impersonating as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

According to them, the seats of former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have become vacant, when they dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All
Progressives Congress (APC).

They maintained that after the desecration of the constitution by jumping ship, when PDP had no crisis to warrant the Rivers lawmakers decamping to the APC, courts of competent jurisdiction, including the apex court have ratified their removal from the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“The level of desperation for political survival, greed for public funds have been the pulling force for the pro-Wike group in constituting itself into a political nuisance in Rivers State.

“While it is obvious that their pay master can no longer sustain their financial and political gluttony, Martin Amaewhule and his sacked 27 lawmakers should be sane enough to remember that they remain sacked, and should stop impersonating as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“Also, they and their paymaster(s) should stop wasting public funds on endless paid press conferences to deny the defection of the sacked 27 lawmakers, and misinterpretation of the Supreme Court’s ruling, which never ruled on sacked lawmakers’ legitimacy, after they illegally left the PDP and joined the APC.

“It’s common knowledge that they decamped on their own on the floor of the House of Assembly, they swore an affidavit in court to back their decampment, they were received by APC in a rally, and we’re handed the APC flag, and APC threw a dinner party for them to celebrate their decampment.

“Suddenly and surprisingly too, when they can’t get their evil desires and have seen they messed up, and have lost their seats, they want to deny their daylight documented defection.

“This will not work, and no amount of press conferences can change the fact that the sacked pro-Wike lawmakers remain sacked, until the Supreme Court decides otherwise,” the statement said.
