The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has debunked a recent news report regarding amendments to its 2024 budget, emphasizing the need for accuracy in media reportage.
In a statement issued by Bola Otumara, Head of the Department of Media and Public Affairs, the Commission clarified that the emergency meeting held on Friday, February 28, 2025, was primarily aimed at ensuring that the 2024 budget was implemented in line with agreed resolutions.
The Commission outlined three key objectives of the meeting:
Ensuring Budget Compliance: Board members were reminded of the importance of aligning project implementation with established resolutions.
Project Inspections: Members were encouraged to continue inspecting projects across DESOPADEC’s mandate areas in preparation for commissioning.

Legislative Oversight: The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to working strictly within the budget approved by the Delta State House of Assembly.
Otumara emphasized that only the State House of Assembly has the statutory power to amend any portion of the law governing DESOPADEC, and no such amendment was made at the meeting.
The statement further cautioned against misinformation, urging journalists to fact-check sensitive information with the Commission’s Media and Public Affairs Department before publication.
DESOPADEC reaffirmed its dedication to transparency and accountability in managing resources for oil-producing communities in Delta State.
