Delta State is taking bold steps to attract entrepreneurs and investors with promising business opportunities at its Free Trade Zones (FTZs) and the rapidly expanding Koko Port. Shimite Love, the Special Adviser on Trade and Export to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, is leading the charge, urging investors to capitalize on the economic advantages offered by the Koko and Kwale FTZs.
Speaking to reporters, Love highlighted the potential of the FTZs, noting that entrepreneurs can set up operations at the zones, from building factories and warehouses to establishing businesses like salons and offices for trading agents. She stressed that these zones present significant opportunities for job creation and economic growth in Delta State.
“Investors who are spending millions on luxury cars should consider channeling their resources into the development of these free trade zones,” Love said, adding that such investments would not only generate profits but also provide a sustainable means of employment for Delta’s residents.
Love further encouraged developers to diversify their portfolios. “If you’ve already built hotels in Asaba or Warri, consider constructing a factory in the FTZs. The costs are comparable, and the benefits to the local economy are immense,” she stated.
Despite the prevailing economic challenges in Nigeria, Love urged people to recognize the business opportunities that exist even in tough times. “Every challenge presents an opportunity, and now is the perfect time to explore the vast potential of Delta’s free trade zones,” she added.

The Delta State Government has completed designs for residential areas within the FTZs to accommodate investors, entrepreneurs, and their employees, making it easier for businesses to thrive in the region. With the Koko Port now operational and handling shipments to Africa, South Africa, the UK, and other global destinations, Delta is fast becoming a hub for international trade.
“We offer significant advantages at Koko Port. Businesses that deal with agricultural products can bypass long delays and high demurrage costs at other ports by choosing Koko, where we promise lower costs and faster processing times,” Love explained.
Love also emphasized the benefits of registering with the FTZs, noting that importers and exporters can take advantage of residency visas, work permits for expatriates, and a host of other incentives. The operations at Koko Port, she added, will enhance the ease of doing business in Delta State.
Governor Oborevwori’s administration is fully committed to economic development through strategic trade and export policies, and Delta’s Free Trade Zones are at the heart of that vision. Investors looking for long-term growth are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities the state offers.
