The Delta State Traditional Medicine Board has announced the immediate dissolution of its Taskforce on fake and counterfeit herbal drugs, along with its Screening Committee responsible for assessing the qualifications and suitability of herbal medicine practitioners.

Dr. Ogbogodor Ogumu, Chairman of the Board, made the announcement during the Board’s inaugural meeting in Asaba. He assured practitioners that all documents, certificates, and licenses previously issued by the Executive Secretary would remain valid until December 31, 2024.

Dr. Ogumu emphasized the need for reforms and stated that the dissolved committees would soon be reconstituted. He noted that the Board is preparing to introduce measures aimed at revitalizing traditional medicine practices in the state, aligning them with the healthcare system and supporting the MORE agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.

The Chairman warned against illegal practices and urged all traditional medicine practitioners to register with the Board to obtain the necessary operational documents. He also issued a stern warning to women falsely claiming the title of “Eze Nwanyi,” cautioning that such actions would attract sanctions.

Calling for unity and commitment, Dr. Ogumu solicited the cooperation of Board members and staff, urging them to focus on achieving the organization’s goals. He highlighted the importance of repositioning the traditional medicine sector to ensure its relevance and professionalism.

Board members, including Dr. Faith Odis and Chief Dr. Ezekiel Alighomire, expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for the opportunity to serve. They pledged their dedication to the success of the Board and reaffirmed their commitment to the Governor’s MORE agenda. Both members emphasized the importance of teamwork and encouraged practitioners to specialize within their fields to enhance the credibility of traditional medicine in the state.

The inaugural meeting, which brought together Board members from all three senatorial districts, marks the beginning of a renewed effort to elevate the standards of traditional medicine in Delta State and integrate it into the broader healthcare system.
