The Delta State Government has launched a strategic partnership with private sector developers to deliver affordable housing across the state. The initiative, which aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda, aims to ease the burden of skyrocketing rent prices, particularly for civil servants and low-income families.

Delta State Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Godknows Angele, disclosed this during a crucial meeting with representatives of the Umudaike community in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area. The meeting, held on Thursday, brought together key stakeholders including officials from Delta Trust Mortgage Bank, Zenith Bank, and Mr. Emmanuel Kwejubola, CEO of Kwejubola Nigeria Ltd.

Speaking at the event, Angele emphasized the urgency of government-private sector collaboration to meet the growing demand for decent and affordable housing. He reaffirmed the Oborevwori-led administration’s commitment to leveraging partnerships that deliver real value to citizens through quality infrastructure and better living conditions.

The commissioner highlighted that the current housing market is unsustainable for many residents, especially civil servants, who face constant rent hikes. He noted that the state’s public-private partnership model would bridge the affordability gap while also ensuring construction standards are strictly adhered to. Angele issued a clear warning to developers: any substandard structures will be demolished without hesitation.

Mr. Emmanuel Kwejubola, whose firm is leading the housing development plan, revealed that consultations are ongoing with the Umudaike community to finalize terms. The project is expected to transform approximately 1,000 plots of land spanning 250 acres near Admiralty University into a modern residential area. Beyond delivering homes, the development will serve as a catalyst for urban renewal in Asaba and its environs.

The plan includes a payment framework that will see landowners receive 30 percent of agreed compensation upfront, after which a formal agreement will be signed with the state government to proceed with construction.

Community representative Mr. Tunneh Emmanuel expressed strong support for the project, calling it a “game-changer” for the Ibusa area. He praised the collaborative approach and said the development would attract more government services and economic opportunities to the region.
