The Delta State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ofuoma–Ughelli, on Saturday recorded a major academic milestone as it held its 8th Convocation Ceremony, graduating a total of 5,922 students and reaffirming its commitment to producing competent and ethical health professionals for service to humanity.
The colourful ceremony, held in an atmosphere of joy and celebration, drew dignitaries, government officials, traditional rulers, parents, graduates and well-wishers from across the state and beyond.
Provost of the College, Odiete Eravweroso, described the convocation as historic, noting that it was the first to be conducted under her leadership following her appointment in August 2025 by the governor of Delta State.
She explained that the ceremony brought together graduates from 2017 to 2025, many of whom had waited several years to formally receive their certificates.
According to her, the convocation symbolised “closure, restoration and the fulfilment of a long-awaited academic right,” as she expressed gratitude to God and appreciation to the Delta State government for its sustained support to education and manpower development.
She also acknowledged the contributions of the institution’s governing council, regulatory bodies, traditional rulers, parents, partners and friends of the institution, noting that their presence added prestige to the event.
The provost revealed that a total of 5,922 students successfully completed their programmes within the period under review and urged the graduands to uphold professionalism, discipline and compassion in their various careers.
She stressed that while certificates qualify them to practise, character would ultimately define their relevance and impact in society.
“Delay is not denial. You are graduating at a time when Nigeria needs competent, ethical and compassionate health professionals more than ever,” she said, assuring that her administration would continue to prioritise accreditation, infrastructure development, staff training and the repositioning of the college as a centre of excellence.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori congratulated the graduates on the successful completion of their studies and charged them to deploy their knowledge and skills in service to humanity.
The governor who was represented by the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, encouraged them to pursue further studies and commended the governing council and management for organising a convocation after a long interval.
He expressed optimism that the governor would personally attend the next convocation ceremony of the institution.
The event featured the conferment of certificates, National Diplomas and Higher National Diplomas on the 5,922 graduands, presentation of awards to best-graduating students, conferment of fellowship and personality awards on deserving individuals, and a group photograph, marking a significant chapter in the history of the college.
