The Delta State Sports Commission has announced the constitution of a new board for the Delta State Athletics Association.
According to a statement issued by the Commission’s Director of Public Relations, Mrs. Okonma Franka, the formation of the new board is part of ongoing efforts to inject fresh energy and strategic direction into athletics development in Delta, building on the state’s legacy of sporting excellence.
The newly constituted board is headed by former local government chairman and grassroots sports advocate, Sir Itiako Ikpokpo, who will serve as Chairman. He will be supported by Barr. Smart Edoge as Vice Chairman and Shaibu Aliyu Aliu as Secretary.

Osakwe Emily. Coach Representative
Oba Joyce Oghenetaga. NAWIS Representative
Godspower Odede . Technical Official Representative
Gowon Akpodono as Member

The board’s official inauguration is scheduled for Monday, June 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
The Commission also expressed its heartfelt appreciation to the outgoing board members for their “valuable contributions and meritorious service” to the growth of athletics in the state. Their dedication, the statement noted, played a significant role in sustaining Delta’s reputation as a powerhouse in Nigerian athletics.
With this new leadership structure, the Commission says it is confident that Delta State Athletics will witness enhanced coordination, development, and performance at all levels.
