Delta State Government has shut down a primary school in Asaba following the death of a 19-month-old pre-Nursery pupil, Obina Udeze.

According to reports, the victim died from injuries sustained as a result of the floggings he received from a teacher, Emeka Nwogbo, on Monday, leaving marks of cane on his body.

The little boy was said to have fallen sick after the beating and was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba. His health deteriorated until he eventually died on Saturday morning.

The teacher, Emeka Nwogbo is the son of the proprietress of the private school and he has been arrested by the police.

Delta State Commissioner for Basic Education Chika Ossai explained that the government’s decision to seal up the school was because it does not have an operational licence and is not a government-approved institution.

However, the accused teacher is currently in police custody while investigations are ongoing. The Delta State Police Command spokesperson DSP Bright Edafe, said they have commenced investigations into Udeze’s death.
